Ability Tree Florida

Our mission is to reach out to families impacted by disability through recreation, education, support, and training (R.E.S.T.). We aim to partner with individuals and organizations to raise awareness and build support networks to strengthen and grow able families. Ability Tree Florida launched in the Fall of 2017 with a monthly respite night to give parents of children with special needs a break and some rest. And hopes to open in 2018 an after-school program for children with special needs so that their parents can receive a daily break as a caregiver.

Sensory-friendly, accessible, and inclusive events for families of those impacted by disability and special needs will be the heart of what we do in Hernando County as well as Pasco and Citrus Counties(The Nature Coast). Our goal is to PARTNER with local businesses and organizations to offer such events for families with children with special needs and their friends. These events include movie screenings, bowling, art, and music classes. As well as after-school programs, resource and support programs for parents/caregivers, and training for local businesses and churches to create accessibility for all children and families.

Parent’s Night Out

At Parents Night Out, children with special needs and their siblings make new friends, play fun inclusive games, enjoy crafts, stories, accessible activities, and much more! Meanwhile, parents get a break from their ongoing care-giving responsibilities for four hours. We believe that safety is vital as families entrust us with their children. Therefore, each child with special needs is paired one-on-one with a screened volunteer to participate in that evening’s activities. Every volunteer is screened with an application and a federal background check. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
